4 Ways To Avoid Being Too Judgmental – Faith in the News
— Read on faithinthenews.com/4-ways-to-avoid-being-too-judgmental/

This is a very short read but is backed up by scripture.

We all judge each other and jump to conclusions before we know the whole story.

We are all also judging each other about our interpretations of COVID-19 rules in a really unhealthy way.

Worse still people are being murdered because of the colour of there skin – the worst judgment of all that black lives are worth less. Due to racial stereotypes and judgements on others based purely on appearance and skin tone.

Lord God, help us to not judge others purely based on appearance. Help us to see people as You see people and to meet those around us in love, compassion and kindness.

Lord God I pray for all those being persecuted, harmed and killed by racism. I pray you would set people free and I pray for all those seeking justice. I pray lord that you would help us see how we are the same instead of how we are different.

Be Still #BeStill #God

This song has been on very heavy rotation on my Spotify playlist this week and i’ve grabbed a YouTube video so everyone can see it (it has CC too).

Lets not forget in these times of difficulty to be still before God in our quiet time. Here are some verses:

The LORD will fight for you; you need only to be still.” Exodus 14:14

Be still before the LORD and wait patiently for him; do not fret when people succeed in their ways, when they carry out their wicked schemes. Psalms 37:7

He says, “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.” Psalms 46:10

In the NIV the command to be ‘be still’ is written 8 times – its two words but its not insignificant God tells us 8 times!

In the Gospel of Mark Jesus calms a storm and tells it to ‘be still’ – God has the power to calm the storms we face daily too.

He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Quiet! Be still!” Then the wind died down and it was completely calm.

He said to his disciples, “Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?”

They were terrified and asked each other, “Who is this? Even the wind and the waves obey him!” Mark 4:39-41

I’m aware that its much easier for me to ‘be still’ for a couple of minutes than it is for those of you with children at home or those working supporting others at this time. Maybe you can just take a minute or two on for you and God just before you go to sleep?

I would really encourage you to try and fit in some time to ‘be still’.

Finally I have found this post very helpful in my quiet times on the theme of being still before God.

Living Well When You Are Not Well…

This is really worth a read it sums up the experience of having your life shattered (for me it was like lots of mini shards falling off slowly over time) everything you wanted and dreamed of being flushed away down the pan and having to set new goals.

My goals are very day to day I’m going to focus on what I need to achieve today or this week and not think too far into the future.

One thing is very clear for me if I did not know that God has a perfect plan for my life and He had this plan set out for me before I was even born! I put all my trust and hope not in medicine (which tells me there is no hope) but in God who has a plan.

Hear A New Song…

So First things first merry Christmas and a happy new year To all!

It got to that magical time when your phone contract comes to an end and I spent a lot of time researching which phone to get and the costs not only upfront but over the length of the contract – there was much pondering!

One of my main problems with my old phone was storage it had a software glitch that meant when it got nearly full things would stop working. I was constantly deleting content (which often did not free storage… it was a big glitch) and was very limited when it came to applications it was getting very frustrating!

Next thing to consider was the camera – that may sound strange for a blind person but I take photos all the time and I love taking pictures of nature… And I don’t have a camera so I want the camera on my phone to be my camera. Aside from the regular uses as a visually impaired person I also take pictures of stuff I can’t read then zoom in to the photo I snapped to read the information. This works great and I use it every day on everything from the cooking instructions on my dinner to reading a sign.

I love music – pretty much all music! On my old phone I could store no music I could only stream.

So I got a new phone better camera and vitally more storage I set it all up and immediately set it up to play music at the very best quality and save it in that format great!

I listened through the phones speakers and I was impressed by the new quality and volume.

Then I hit the sales and for complicated reasons I won’t go into brought some new Bluetooth headphones of reasonable quality.

I set them up and started listening and I was blown away!

Songs I’ve listened to probably hundreads of times had a brand new clarity, deeper base notes and genuinely sounded absolutely amazing even at relatively low volume.

It was like I was hearing my music for the first time I kept switching genres I was eager to hear everything a fresh.

I was hearing a new song… but it wasn’t a new song!

And it’s got me thinking this can be a bit like our relationship with God.

We can get to a place of comfort, of status quo we have been plodding along with God and everything seems a bit bland and we don’t even realise we are approaching our relationship with God in a lack lustre way.

I am not one for New Years resolutions – in fact for me personally I really dislike them but given a new year is about to start and it’s all about new beginnings here’s some thoughts.

I want to tell you now to pick up some new headphones and hear a new song!

(Of course it’s not a new song, God is steadfast)

The way to do this is simple first you need to recognise that the song your listening to is starting to feel a bit tired. It’s all about how you think if you reconsider a pattern of behaviour in your mind it’s the first step to changing it – my apologies for sounding like a psychotherapist but take it from one that knows just changing the way you think is a big start and can have huge impacts on your daily life.

Dig into your bible – simple! Don’t do this in a legalistic way out of duty do it because you want to know more of God and his word. I really recommend the YouVersion Bible app because you can switch between loads of different translations (which I think can often add even more to get stuck into) and there are reading plans on different topics. One of the things I love most about the reading plans is that if you miss a day (or 12) you click a button and it catches the plan up to the Callander.

Seek out encouragement and fellowship these two can be separate but are often linked. Ask a friend to share there testimony over a coffee or ask someone about a time God has done a miracle in there life. You can also look for encouragement on Christian news websites and social media BE EXCITED AND EXPECTANT!

And on that note…

Lord God I pray you will ready our hearts and minds for the new songs you have for us to hear in 2017 and the old ones that we hear a new. Help us to live in a relationship with you that does not grow worn or tarnished over time help us to be alive in you and to live for you.

New year new you – NO!

Now there’s a phrase that’s branded about a lot at this time of year I have no idea who first coined the phrase but I hate it… I shall explain why and start by being a little pedantic!

First off lets get this straight it is impossible to create a new you at new year or any other time. Until science evolves to the point where we can clone humans this is fundamentally impossible. Yea bits of us can replaced – I have the cornea of a very kind hearted individual who agreed to be an organ and tissue donor upon their passing.

Here’s my next issue God created you PERFECT! Whatever quirks or traits you have where planned by God. You are a beautiful creation the idea of ditching all that beauty and perfection from God to create a new you just does not compute in my brain. God loves you infinitely the way you are and created you to be you and no one else.

Then there is the issue of chronic illness for people like me there is no cure (or hope of a cure) my body is the body I was born with and no amount of diet changes or exercise will make that body function normally.

That’s just a tiny taste of why The phrase grates on me so much!

So new year new you can do one!
